Wynola Country Cousins Bush Camping, Killarney

Frequently asked questions:

Where is Wynola? Wynola is just 10 mins from Killarney, 45 mins east of Warwick and 2.5 hrs from Brisbane and the Gold Coast.

How much does it cost to camp? Our camping fee is $25 per person per night. Children under 10 are free. Our pricing structure is based on hosting a low volume of campers, even when our sites are full. During peak camping periods, like long weekends, we introduce a minimum number of campers on our larger sites to save them for groups. Hipcamp charges a booking fee on top of our camping fee, and we pay them an insurance fee.

Can I access Wynola in a 2wd drive? Wynola is located on Condamine River Road. You can access Long Crossing campsite with a 2wd vehicle, but you won’t be able to explore the road up the Cambanoora Gorge, which has 14 river crossings. You need a high clearance vehicle and trailer to access our other campsites.

Can I access the campsites in wet weather? It depends on how much rain we get! After heavy rainfall in the river catchment, the river can rise and fall quickly. Much of our property is on black soil so the access to some of our sites (those yet to be gravelled) can be slippery. Our rain mainly falls in summer and we can let you know about local conditions a few days ahead of your stay in case you or we have to cancel to allow for wet weather.

Do I have to go through river crossings to get to Wynola campsites? You can access Silky Oak and Long Crossing campsites without going through riverbed crossings. You can also access The Cave using our private road that avoids Long Crossing. You will go through Andrew Evans River Crossing to get to Platypus Reach and Dolly’s View. You need to travel on a short 4WD track through a shallow, rocky river crossing to get to Yellow Jacket and The Junction.

Do you have any facilities at your campsites? Our campsites are kept neat and tidy with constructed firepits. They have no other facilities, so campers need to come fully self-contained, including bringing their camping toilets. (No holes in the ground, must be a chemical toilet where you take your waste with you). We have a strict ‘leave no trace’ policy so our next guests can enjoy our sites. For group bookings, you can hire a port a loo from Hire Solutions http://hiresolutionsqld.com/ in Warwick. Please book and pay for it directly with Hire Solutions. For a small fee ($50) we can deliver the loo to your site and return it for you (you will need to contact us via email jo@writeforyou.com.au to organise the delivery).

What is the best camping equipment for your sites? You can bring off-road camper trailers, caravans or set up tents and a canopy. We see unique and impressive camping setups. So long as you are entirely self-contained, and have high clearance, preferably 4WD vehicles, you are good to go.

Can I bring my dog? We are dog-friendly, but they must be cattle, horse and wildlife-friendly.

Can I have a campfire? All our sites have constructed campfire pits. You can use these with care unless there is a fire ban. You can either bring your wood or order firewood as an extra through our Hipcamp listing.

What activities are available? Onsite, our campers are welcome to explore the property by bushwalking or cycling. We have horses and cattle in various paddocks, so make sure gates are left the way you find them. All our campsites are riverside, so swimming is an excellent summer option (you can also swim in winter, but the water is freezing). Our property is also a bird watchers paradise. We don’t permit fishing, hunting, shooting, four wheel driving or motorbike riding on our property. Off the property, you can travel through the 14 river crossings to the Head and come back via Queen Mary Falls. Other suggestions include: • Walk along the creek to Browns Falls • Watch sunset at Carr’s Lookout • See the moss gardens on the NSW/QLD border • Look for platypus • Bushwalk at Queen Mary Falls • Visit Killarney Heritage Centre • Play golf in Killarney • Tour the Granite Belt wineries

Will I have to share my campsite with other campers? Not unless they are your friends and family and have booked through you. Each campsite is exclusive to the person or group that books it.

Which campsites are best for a larger group? The best group sites are Silky Oak, The Cave and The Junction. Access to the Junction is through a shallow, rocky and sloping 4WD track, so all your group will need an off-road vehicle and camping trailer/caravan.

What is the best way to book for a group when some are staying longer than others? Our preference is that you make a single booking for the group through Hipcamp. However, it is best to make group bookings where some people intend to stay longer than others directly with the hosts rather than through Hipcamp.

Are all the sites located alongside the river? Yes, every campsite has its own stretch of river for campers to enjoy in privacy.

What time is check-in and check-out? Check-in after 1pm and out before 12pm. If you’d like to arrive earlier or leave later, just ask, if the site is available before and after your booking; we are relaxed about arrival times.

How do we check-in? We will email specific instructions and a mud map a few days before you get here. If you are new to our property, you need to come up to our house and we will take you to your site. If you are frequent campers, you are welcome to go straight to your site. When you check out, you don’t need to come back to the house. Feel free to SMS us on your way out to let us know you have departed.

What is your cancellation policy? Our goal is to host as many return campers as possible. So, we provide a full cancellation fee up until the day before arrival for whatever reason. We understand stuff happens, and plans change and we hope you will book at another time. Hipcamp does not refund their booking fee. Sometimes we also have to cancel a camper’s booking because of wet weather or other hazardous conditions.
