Dear Country Cousins: Quarter 1
Dear City Cousin,
If you’re looking for the perfect mix of adventure and downtime, join us for a weekend at Wynola Country Cousins Bush Camping and spend a day exploring the Falls Drive. It’s a scenic loop with waterfalls, picnic spots, and stunning views – all just a short drive from your campsite. And while Cyclone Alfred wreaked havoc on Brisbane and the Gold Coast, it’s really got the Falls pumping in spectacular fashion.
Start with Browns Falls, the most adventurous of the three. To reach the base, you’ll need to scramble 600 m over rocks and creeks, so bring your walking shoes. But discovering the hidden waterfall tucked away in the forest is the pot of gold. The nearby park has BBQs, a playground, and toilets—a good spot to pause and refuel.
Just 1km up the road, Daggs Falls gives you big impact for little effort. The lookout is right near the car park, offering a dramatic view of the 39m drop into the gorge below.
Then head to Queen Mary Falls, 10km from Killarney, just 15 mins from your campsite. There’s a short 400m walk to the lookout or take the 2km circuit track down to the base. It’s a peaceful walk through an open forest and into a rainforest gorge – allow 45 minutes if you do the full loop. The picnic area has covered tables, BBQs and amenities, and there’s a lovely café for your midmorning caffeine fix. Be mindful though, this is a national park so you’ll have to leave Fido back at camp.
Finish with a stop at Carr’s Lookout, just 8km further along. From here, the views stretch across the Head Valley to Mt Superbus and the Scenic Rim. It’s a great way to round off the drive before heading back to camp.
And what a campsite to come back to! Wynola’s bush campsites are private and peaceful, and each one is nestled along the river. Cool off with a swim, spot a platypus, wander the bush tracks, or relax by the campfire as the stars emerge. You’ll fall asleep to the sounds of the river and wake to birdsong – no traffic, no stress.
It’s the kind of place where one night turns into two. So if you plan to explore the falls, make a weekend of it. Campsites book out quickly, especially around holidays, so jump online and lock it in.
Much love,
Your Wynola Country Cousin
